Judge Roberts Nominated for Chief Justice and the Rehnquist Legacy (Listen)
President Bush has promoted his nomination for the Supreme Court. With the death of William Rehnquist, Judge John G. Roberts Jr. has now been nominated for Rehnquist’s seat as Chief Justice of the United States. Larry Mantle talks with Douglas Kmiec, Professor of Constitutional Law at Pepperdine University School of Law, Erwin Chemerinsky, Professor of Constitutional Law at Duke University School of Law and Viveca Novak, legal correspondent for Time.

Larry Mantle discusses AB 849 sponsored by Assemblyman Mark Leno that passed the California Assembly Tuesday night. This is a bill to legalize same-sex marriage, and it passed by a 41-35 vote from the California Assembly, completing its final hurdle in the state legislature. Larry talks with Tamara Keith, KPCC State Capital Bureau reporter, Ray Haynes, Assemblyman, from the 66th District, and Jackie Goldberg, Assemblywoman, from the 45th District.

HURRICANE KATRINA UPDATE (Listen)
As floodwaters begin to recede in New Orleans, search and rescue efforts continue. Larry Mantle talks with Major General William B. Caldwell IV of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. The division has continues to rescue New Orleans residents, and has evacuated over 3500 people in the last week since its deployment. The 82nd Airborne Division has just launched a massive new search and recovery effort using paratroopers and small boats. Larry also talks with UCLA toxicology professor John Froines about the short and long-term biological, chemical and ecological impact of the tainted floodwaters.
