The End Of Easy Rawlins?

Mosley recently revealed in Ebony magazine that, after writing the Rawlins' tales since 1990, Blonde Faith, the tenth in the series, may be the last. Larry talks with reporters and experts about the latest on the Southern California wildfires. So far the fires have consumed more than 245,957 acres, and more than 346,000 San Diego homes have been ordered to evacuate. The fires have spread and grown in many Southern Californian communities, fueled by up to 70 mph Santa Ana winds. Guests include Tony Perry of the LA Times, Captain Steve Miller of the Orange County Fire Department, Jonathan Fielding of the L.A. County Department of Health, and Inspector Rick Dominguez of the L.A. County Fire Department.

Why is college tuition rising faster than the rate of inflation? With financial aid to students on the decline and tuitions costs going up, many parents and college bound students find themselves struggling with the cost of higher education. Larry talks about how students pay for their education and examines the cost to the institution of educating students with David Levy of Scripps College, Patricia Hurley, Ed. D, of Glendale Community College, Robert Daly of UC Riverside, and Mike Groener of Occidental College. Writers Guild Strike

The Writers Guild of America voted 90% in favor of granting a strike authorization last Friday. The dispute is largely over compensation for content distributed online, as well as royalties for DVD sales, and compensation for the writers of "reality" TV shows. Larry talks about the issue and what a strike would mean for the film and television industries with Alex Ben Block of Hollywood Today.

Trash haulers for Waste Management Inc. went on strike last Friday, affecting many Los Angeles area residents and businesses. Larry discusses the details of the labor dispute with Jay Phillips, President of the union representing the workers, and Spokeswoman for Waste Management Inc. Kit Cole.
AFI FEST 2007

The 21st AFI FEST will be held in Los Angeles from November 1st through 11th. It features international competitions of new films from emerging filmmakers, the latest works from great film masters, and premieres. Larry talks with the festival's Artistic Director, Rose Kuo, as well as festival programmer Shaz Bennett.
Middle East International Film Festival

Larry talks with FilmWeek and Christian Science Monitor critic, Peter Rainer, about the Middle East International Film Festival which was held earlier this month in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates.
