Today marks the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Those attacks and the lead-up to them were pored over by the 9/11 Commission many years ago, which then issued more than 40 recommendations to prevent a future attack. Many were followed, but some were not.
An op-ed in today's New York Times by journalist Kurt Eichenwald states that after looking at presidential daily briefs from the spring and summer of 2001, direct warnings of al Qaeda attacks were apparent. These briefs were issued before the infamous presidential daily brief from August 6, 2001 with the heading: "bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S."
