Joe Klein of Time Magazine gestures as he speaks on NBC's 'Meet the Press' during a taping at the NBC studios March 6, 2005 in Washington, DC.

Time Magazine political columnist Joe Klein spent 30 days on the road, talking to regular people and, as he puts it, “getting past the soundbites..”

He sees a shift in American thinking. For instance, he found people who told him they’d now happily pay $50 more for a DVD player if it meant more Americans had jobs. And Klein said he found very shallow support for the U-S involvement in Afghanistan, among both Democrats and Republicans. Joe Klein talks to Madeleine about what "real people" told him during his month-long trip across America.
