Reading the tea leaves of the Consumer Price Index

The Consumer Price Index increased by 0.5 percent in December, according to numbers released Friday. The jump was mostly due to higher energy prices.

The Consumer Price Index and a whole slew of other numbers were released Friday. The CPI is looked to as an indicator of inflation. The CPI jumped 0.5 percent, mostly due to higher energy prices but retail sales and job growth grew less than expected.
