Tea Party Tax Day in St. Paul, MN. The group protested taxes and called for repeal of the new health care law.
The House begins debate today on Republicans' biggest campaign promise, repealing the new health care law. Called Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act, they've scheduled a vote for tomorrow. Until recently, it seemed the GOP's sole focus was repealing the new law, but now Republicans have a few proposals of their own for cutting costs and expanding insurance coverage. Martin Kady of Politico tells us what's on the table.
With the GOP in the majority and a few House Democrats set to join them, repeal is expected to pass the House, but stop short in the Senate.
The Associated Press has a new fact check out, noting that despite the "job-killing" claim, the health care law will not reduce employment. Rather, those who favor repeal have skewed CBO figures which suggest that a small number of Americans will choose to work less under the new law, since they won't need full time employment to secure health insurance.
Meanwhile, an op ed written by former CBO officials in today's Wall Street Journal says, health care repeal won't add to the deficit.
Which measure -- the health care law, or it's repeal -- really cuts costs?
