Argentine ants might be hardwired to invade your kitchen

Ants attack a berry. The invasive species, Argentine ants, are adept at invading your kitchen because they are all from the same super colony, according to a recent study of their genome by UC Berkeley biologist Neil Tsutsui.
They're tiny, only about an eighth of an inch long, but they can be a huge nuisance, especially when they come marching determinedly through your kitchen. Argentine ants: they've formed a "super colony" here in California. Now, a team of biologists has unlocked clues in the ant's genome that explain why they are such super pests. Neil Tsutsui, a biologist at UC Berkeley who mapped the ants' genes, joins us to give us clues as what might stop them.
