First Amendment protections for video games challenged in 9th Circuit appeals case

A huge First Amendment case will be argued today in Pasadena before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. It involves college athletes and whether or not they should be compensated by both the NCAA and the video game maker, Electronic Arts. Loyola Law School Professor, Jennifer Rothman outlines the case.

State budget impact on Cal State students

The state's budget crisis has taken a large toll on the California State University system in the form of higher tuition costs and fewer teachers. A new report out today attempts to quantify the impact those cuts have had on the students themselves. Co-author of the report, Gary Orfield explains more.

NASA gets before and after shots... of a comet

It was a busy night at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. Scientists there are working around the clock, monitoring a small spacecraft named Stardust. Stardust's mission is to fly by a comet known as Tempel 1 and take its picture. Last night Stardust got within 112 miles of the comet and snapped 72 images.

Sometimes comedy doesn't travel: Pacific Rim Diary with Roland Kelts

Even in our globally connected world, sometimes humor doesn't travel. Writer Roland Kelts was slated to have participated in a BBC television program hosted by Stephen Fry, but it was cancelled abruptly after Fry made a joke some Japanese did not find amusing. Roland is half Japanese and spends half his time living in Tokyo. He's the author of a book on Japan's influence on American pop culture called Japanamerica.
