Effects of Japan quake reverberating through Hollywood with Sony tape shortage

The earthquake and tsunami in Japan have left an important Sony plant inoperable. It produces HDCAM SR tape commonly used by television shows and feature films.

The earthquake and tsunami in Japan have had repercussions in business, with Honda and Toyota shutting down several facilities, Toshiba halting production on microchips and computer processors and Sony struggling to get its Sendai Technology Center back on line. It manufactures HD magnetic tape which is widely used in film and television in Hollywood. We talk to production coordinator Allyce Ozarski about the concern over diminishing tape stocks.
