The summer slide: students lose knowledge during extended holiday

Is summer vacation really the culprit behind our children falling behind in school?

No more homework, no more books, no more teachers dirty looks! School's out - or nearly out - for summer. But while some hard-won time off may seem like good news for students, a recent RAND study shows that by the end of the three-month break, students lose up to a month's worth of what they've learned. What's a parent to do? Madeleine talks to Geoffrey Borman, an education professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
