Derek Fisher of the Los Angeles Lakers speaks about the NBA labor negotiations as the deadline loomed on June 30, 2011 in New York City.
After failing to reach an agreement with players, the NBA declared a lock out early Friday morning. The basketball players now join professional football players - NFL owners locked them out back in March. One big difference: all the NFL teams are making money. Owners of the NBA say only eight of the 30 Pro basketball teams are in the black. NPR's sports correspondent, Mike Pesca, joins Madeleine to explain what's going on.
