Marvin Mudrick: rock star of literary criticism
.
Literary critic Marvin Mudrick is the subject of a new biography, "Well, Mr. Mudrick Said," by Bob Blaisdell.
Marvin Mudrick may not be a household name but he's considered to be one of this county's greatest literary critics. He was a professor at UC Santa Barbara from 1949 until his death in 1986. He launched the University's College of Creative studies and wrote one of the definitive critiques of Jane Austen. Book critic David Kipen, owner of the lending library Libros Schmibros in Boyle Heights, joins Madeleine to discuss a new biography of Mudrick.
