For some Californians, energy competition among neighbors helps reduce consumption

Changing out incandescent light bulbs are one way homeowners work to bring down energy usage.

There's no shortage of "helpful" advice out there for shrinking our home energy footprints: Insulate the attic! Chuck those incandescent light bulbs! Unplug that computer when you’re not computing!

Much of it goes ignored. But a new strategy is catching on with some of the states' biggest utilities. As part of the Climate Watch project, The California Report's Los Angeles Bureau Chief Krissy Clark looked into a whole new approach that leverages "Energy envy."
