The indie band Tennis releases its second album on Valentine's Day.
Music critic Drew Tewksbury takes a look at new releases from the indie bands Tennis and Islands.
The Colorado husband-and-wife duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley formed the band Tennis in 2010 after seven months sailing the Eastern Atlantic Seaboard together. Now they're releasing their second album. "Young & Old" is produced by the Black Keys' Patrick Carney and has the band's characteristic retro sound.
Tennis starts its US tour Feb. 16 and will be in Los Angeles May 2.
The Canadian indie rock band Islands, now based in Los Angeles, is releasing its new album "A Sleep & A Forgetting."
Their record label Anti-Records, shared an explanation of the album from band leader Nick Thorburn: “I left New York after the end of a relationship and came to Los Angeles. There was a piano where I was staying and that’s where I wrote these songs. This record deals with loss, with memory and forgetting and with dreaming. I started writing it on Valentine’s Day and it’s coming out on Valentine’s Day.”
