The 1941 Orson Welles film "Citizen Kane," a largely unflattering portrait of a character resembling Hearst, will be shown at Hearst Castle March 9 at the visitor center theater, as part of the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, with the blessing of the late publisher's family.
The first ever screening of Orson Welles' landmark film Citizen Kane debuts at Hearst Castle tonight. The iconic estate served as inspiration for the fictional Xanadu, as did the life of William Randolph Hearst, whose infamous animosity towards the film has become part of Hollywood lore.
Tonight's screening is part of the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival and Wendy Eidson, director of the festival, joins the show to discuss the film and the lavish cinephile celebration taking place tonight.
