Drew Tewksbury is back for new music Tuesday. This week, Drew reviews an album from Amadou & Mariam, a blind couple from Africa. Plus, Yann Tiersen, the musician who brought you the "Amélie" soundtrack, has a new album you won't want to miss.
Amadou & Miriam
Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia met at Mali's Institute for the Young Blind, where they both performed at the Institute’s Eclipse Orchestra. Amadou lost his vision at the age of 16, while Mariam became blind at the age of 5 due to untreated measles.
Yann Tiersen
French musician Yann Tiersen is widely known for his work on the "Amélie" soundtrack, but the depth of his music ranges far and wide. Tiersen combines conventional instruments like violin and guitar with obscure instruments like a typewriter to create a unique, yet familiar sound.
