Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt speaks at a news conference at Dodger Stadium prior to a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers on April 14, 2011 in Los Angeles, California.

A federal grand jury is investigating possible financial misconduct of the Dodgers when Frank and Jamie McCourt owned the franchise, according to a new report by Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times.

Grand juries operate in secret, and there are stiff penalties for divulging information. During the divorce proceedings between Frank and Jamie McCourt, a lot of dirty laundry was exposed — like the Dodgers paying the two McCourt sons big salaries even though one works at Goldman Sachs and the other goes to Stanford.
