Protesters waved Syrian flags and chanted nationalist songs in a demonstration against the Arab League decision to impose crippling sanctions on President Bashar al-Assad's regime. Syria has also come under sharp criticism from an independent commission that accused the security forces of systematically carrying out abuses against anti-government demonstrators.
