I adore DPD and Yo La Tengo, but I have to take issue with Ira Kaplan's characterization of Van Halen and the brown M&Ms. The provision in the contract was not to prove that a venue was "welcoming," it was to prove that the venue actually read the contract. If the M&M clause is mentioned, it can be assumed that someone also read the electricity and equipment requirements of the band, thereby decreasing the chances that the rock band would blow up the concert hall. Pretty ingenious, no?
