Off-Ramp's Celebrity "Night Before Christmas" - 12-18-2010

Mantle, Carolla, Rushdie, Howser, Turner, and Poggioli in an All Star Night Before Christmas

Clement Moore, author of "A Visit from St. Nicholas."

UPDATE 12/20/2013: George Takei has just recorded A Visit from St. Nicholas, ad libbing two words. Possibly you can guess what they are.

Where else will you find Larry Mantle, Adam Carolla, Salman Rushdie, Huell Howser, Kathleen Turner, and Sylvia Poggioli working together but in rendering Clement Moore's "A Visit from St Nicholas" for your ears? It's our non-denominational holiday card to you!

Any celebrity who came by the Mohn Broadcast Center, we grabbed to read a stanza. Morning Edition host Steve Julian cajoled Ted ("Isaac" on the Love Boat) Lange, Jane Kaczmarek, Kathleen Turner, and John ("Q" on Star Trek) de Lancie into reading.

(John de Lancie nailed "more rapid than eagles")

Huell Howser also readily agreed to lend his voice to this audio holiday card to listeners. The KPCC hosts are there, too. If A Martinez had a belly, it would have shook like a bowlful of jelly when he read his lines. And Patt Morrison specifically asked to read the reindeer names, so she could use the Donder version. Which is fine with me. Donner isn't a good name for a reindeer ... or a party.

Enjoy! And happy holidays.
