Ernest Shackleton's ice-locked ship, the Endurance

Note from John Rabe:

Queena and I are taking the week off, and instead of our regular survey of news, arts, and life in Southern California, we're bringing back an old favorite, the documentary "Walking Out of History".

It's the story of Ernest Shackleton's failed expedition to Antarctica, from 1914 to 1916. He and his men got stuck in the ice, lost their ship, and were given up for dead. But they all survived, and it's a testament to the power of their remarkable story that telling you that no one died doesn't spoil it in the least.

"Walking Out of History" uses the actual voices of his crew, plus readings from memoirs and interviews with modern polar explorers who still see Shackleton as a model of leadership.
