Fallen Fruit is a Los Angeles organization that advocates for increased planting of fruit-bearing trees in public spaces and parks, as well as homeowners' back yards. They also distribute maps of various city neighborhoods showing where publicly-available fruit can be harvested from trees. This Sunday, August 2nd, Fallen Fruit will lead the 4th Annual Public Fruit Jam, where anyone can bring their home-grown or publicly-collected fruit, and take home a jar of communal jam. The event happens between 10am and 1pm at the Los Angeles art collective Machine Project

Fallen Fruit is taking care of the rat and roach problem, by picking off the public fruit that would otherwise fall and feed the rats and roaches.

Thanks for the discussion. It seems amazing that with such limited resources like water, we do not take advantage of the situation by planting trees that bear fruit.
It may not be hard to figure out what and where to plant different trees to prevent or reduce nuisance. Thanks again. I'll be following up and doing more .

What a wonderful public awakening of the bounty of Los Angeles! Thank you to David Burns and the other members of Fallen Fruit for showing me how to eat organically, affordable. I'm going to go shake my neighbors fig tree right now!
