The major power players in internet and wireless communications are those telecoms that own a piece of the bandwidth—in other words, companies that control the pipelines delivering information, be it a phone call, email, or internet page. Today FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski proposed new "net neutrality" rules that would prohibit discrimination of content or applications by internet service providers—in other words, everyone gets an equal chunk of the bandwidth pipelines. Will net neutrality prove the great equalizer in wireless communications?
