Is the Royal Family as popular in England as they are made out to be in the U.S media?

The Royals are incredibly popular in the U.K. among the general populous. There are newpaper columns, magazines and websites dedicated to anything and everything considered "Royal." Although there are many who protest the system, it is often cited as a major incentive for visiting tourists to visit the U.K. The loss of the Royal Family would be a great loss of tourist pounds.
