Does mom & dad trump dad & dad….or mom & mom?
It is one of the questions at the heart of the Prop 8 debate - Do parents need both a mother and a father? According to a recent study published in the February issue of the Journal of Marriage and Family the gender of parents has little significance in the psychological adjustment and social success of children. The study concludes that it’s more about the quality of parenting than the gender of the parents—and that gay parents might be even slightly more likely than a heterosexual couple to be committed to hands-on parenting. But can you completely erase gender from the traditional roles of mothers and fathers?
