Demon sheep run amok—California’s senate race takes a bahhhd twist

Whether Carly Fiorina’s campaign intended for their new attack video against Tom Campbell to become an internet sensation or not, the now infamous “demon sheep” ad has gone viral. The bizarre metaphor that the video attempts to set up is of many politicians, or sheep, labeling themselves as fiscal conservatives but in reality being “fiscal conservative in name only”—the obviously memorable acronym of FCINO, and that’s where the demon sheep come in. Mr. Campbell, playing the role of demon sheep, is portrayed dancing around in a field with red eyes and horns. Has California politics sunken to a new low, or does this ad make perfect sense?

Guests:

Tom Campbell, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate; former California Congressman and dean of UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business

Carla Marinucci, political reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle

Julie Soderlund, deputy campaign manager of Carly Fiorina’s U.S. Senate campaign

The comedic material emanating from Washington D.C., and state capitols across the country, is enough to make any sitcom writer jealous, even if most of that comedy is unintentional. Our motto on Comedy Congress is that just when politics makes you want to cry, it’s usually best to laugh.
