Perhaps some are unaware that our iconic Hollywood sign was originally built as an advertisement for the real estate development, Hollywoodland. Since its birth in 1923 the Hollywood sign has evolved into the signature landmark of tinsel town and has had about as many face-lifts as any other Hollywood legend. These days the sign, or at least our view of it, is being threatened by the very thing that first brought it to us – real estate development. A group of Chicago investors own the property around the sign and the clock is counting down to see if the city of Los Angeles can raise the $13million dollars to buy it back and prevent luxury condos from being built up around the landmark.
