Former BART officer Johannes Mehserle awaits the verdict for the trial in which he was accused of murdering Oscar Grant
The verdict is expected any day now. Former BART officer, Johannes Mehserle, claims he meant to fire his Taser, but instead fired a gun into the back of Oscar Grant while Grant laid face down on the BART platform on New Year’s Day 2009. When the verdict is read, all eyes will be on Oakland. Will the blind fury of those supportive of Grant ignite the city into a war zone? What words will leave the foreman’s lips - second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter or acquittal?
