In an effort to show transparency and to combat the public outrage over the city of Bell’s salary structure for elected officials, State Controller Jon Chiang has announced new reporting requirements for all California cities and counties. All counties and cities will have to report salaries for all elected officials and public workers, and the State Controller will post that information on his website. This could be interesting. Will we find out that there are other cities, like Bell, who spend as if they are the New York Yankees? Will this start a trend in financial transparency in California?
