Edwidge Danticat reflects on what it means to be an immigrant artist from a country in turmoil. Princeton University Press

Conditions in the country have been worsened by a major earthquake that hit the country less than a year ago, and now a cholera outbreak is making its way across the island nation. In her latest book, Danticat tells her story as an immigrant artist from a troubled country and presents the stories of other artists whose homelands faced similar trials.

Edwidge Danticat, MacArthur Fellow and author of several works including, Create Dangerously: The Immigrant Artist at Work; she was born in Haiti and moved to the U.S. when she was twelve
