Half of all counties in California do not have a physician routinely available to administer abortions. In order to increase women’s access to the procedure statewide, Senator Christine Kehoe (D-San Diego) has authored a bill, SB 1501, to also allow nurse practitioners, physician assistants and midwives to perform abortions during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Swipe your card for your tax refund

South Carolina will be sending residents their state income tax refunds on a prepaid debit card this year, unless they specifically request direct deposit or a paper check. The change is expected to save the state up to $1 million in printing, mailing and administrative costs, but Bank of America, which issues the cards, looks to be the biggest winner of all.
