The investment group 2100 Trust LLC led by Aaron Kushner announced today that it has bought Freedom Communications Holdings Inc., the parent company of half a dozen newspapers including "The Orange County Register," for an undisclosed sum. The group previously tried to purchase "The Boston Globe," but was unsuccessful. The sale of the Orange County newspaper marks the dissolution of Freedom Communications, which declared bankruptcy in April of 2010. The deal is expected to close within 30 days.
How important is the survival of "The Orange County Register"? How will the sale of the newspaper impact its content, if at all?
