The Terrorist Trap
Kitty speaks with author and expert on terrorism and security issues, Jeffrey Simon, about his newly updated edition of The Terrorist Trap (Indiana University Press). Simon takes a look at the history of terrorism from all points of view, including interviews with terrorists, their victims, government officials and others. The book includes an analysis of the most recent terrorism, 9/11.

Valley Secession Update
Host Kitty Felde takes a look at the latest news about the Valley­s bid for secession from the city of Los Angeles with Rick Orlov of The Daily News.

State of the State Preview
Political Columnist for The Sacramento Bee, Dan Walters, joins Kitty for a preview of tonight­s State of the State address by Governor Gray Davis.

Jo-Ellan Dimitrius on the lessons of jury consulting
As a jury consultant in over 600 trials, including the cases of Rodney King and OJ Simpson, Jo-Ellan Dimitrius has become one of the nation's leading experts on the meaning of appearance and behavior. She joins Kitty to share some of her insights and to discuss her latest book, Put Your Best Foot Forward (Fireside).

Child Support Update
Two years ago, California­s system of child support services was at an all-time low, with paltry reimbursement, fragmented tracking of payment, and a severe lack of unified leadership. In response, a statewide agency was created to reform child support services. Last Friday, the department received its first report card with surprisingly high marks. Kitty Felde speaks with the Director of California­s Support Services, Curtis Child, about what contributed to the turnaround, future rollout plans, and more.

Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees
Kitty speaks with Jaime Jarrin, the Spanish voice of the LA Dodgers and hall of famer himself, about yesterday­s inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Stephen Ambrose, Plagiarist?
Historian Stephen Ambrose recently acknowledged that parts of his new book, The Wild Blue, were copied from work by another historian. Kitty speaks with Jonathan Kirsch, author and partner at Kirsh and Mitchell who specializes in publishing and intellectual property law, about what exactly is considered plagiarism.

Science and Music
Next Saturday evening, the Pasadena Symphony will reach for the stars by performing Debussy­s Nocturnes and Holst­s The Planets. In addition to the concert, telescopes will be outside the concert hall for concertgoers to observe the celestial majesty that inspired the symphonies. Host Kitty Felde speaks with Matt Golombek, the chief scientist of the Mars Pathfinder Mission who will give a presentation about the stars before the concert, and Karine Beesley, the executive director of the Pasadena Symphony, about how science, space and music align. Harbor Secession
Monday on Talk of the City we discussed Valley secession with Rick Orlov of The Daily News. Today we speak with KPCC reporter Frank Stoltze about the possibility of the Harbor seceding from the city of Los Angeles.

The History of Figure Skating
Coinciding with the 2002 Figure Skating Championships at the Staples Center this week, two-time US Men­s champion and two-time world bronze medalist and current coach at the Culver City Ice Rink, Gary Visconti joins Kitty to discuss the history of Figure Skating. Kitty looks back on the history of the bluesô.blue jeans that is. Legendary denim designers Levi and Strauss, headquartered in San Francisco, have their own staff historian Lynn Downey who joins Kitty for a "riveting" look back at the allure of button flies, red tabs and double stitching. Karen Constantine, director of the CA film Commission, answers listener questions about tax incentives and other new perks.

Anthony Bourdain
Kitchen Confidential author and Food Network star Anthony Bourdain is back from a global tour in search of the perfect meal. He joins Kitty to reminisce about braised bat, live cobra hearts and other culinary highlights featured in his new TV series and latest book, A Cook's Tour (Bloomsbury). Hold on to your stomachs!

KPCC Book Club of the Air for Young Adults
Kitty is joined in studio by 5th grade students from Lee Elementary School in Los Alamitos to discuss this month­s Book Club of the Air selection, The Watson­s go to Birmingham: 1963 - A Novel (Ransom House) by Christopher Paul Curtis, who also participates.
