Monday, February 25
Bill Simon interviewed by Students From Tustin High School
Candidate for Governor, Bill Simon, takes the hot seat opposite six AP Government students from Tustin High School to discuss everything from his recent surge in the polls to defending his campaign promises.

Maasai Tepilit Ole Saitoti
Maasai elder, leader, activist and author, Tepilit Ole Saitoti, joins Kitty for a discussion of Maasai history and culture. Tepilit Ole Saitoti will speak tomorrow in the forum at Pasadena City College from 10:30-12 noon. The lecture is free and open to the public.


Tuesday, February 26
Gubernatorial Debate
In the race for the gubernatorial nomination, the focus tends to be around three Republican candidates looking to face off against Governor Gray Davis. But there are a total fifteen candidates running for the office of governor. Kitty Felde hosts a debate with seven of the less well-known candidates: Natural Law candidate Iris Adam, American Independent Reinhold Gulke, Republicans Danney Ball, Edie Bukewihge, Jim Dimov, Nick Jesson, and Democrat Charles ˛ChuckÓ Pineda, Jr.

You Look Beautiful Like That at the Hammer
Kitty speaks with curator Michelle Lamuniere and photographer Malick Sidibe about their current exhibit at the Hammer Museum, You Look Beautiful Like That. The exhibit is a collection of black and white portraits of Mali natives on view through May 19.

Term Limits
Do term limits protect constituents by shielding them from career politicians? Or do constituents suffer when some of their most informed representatives are forced to leave office? Kitty Felde explores the philosophy behind term limits and reviews Proposition 45, which is meant to loosen the restrictions of term limits established with the passing of Proposition 140. Two guests with opposing views on the benefits of term limits join Kitty for the discussion: Assistant Professor of Political Science at UCLA, Jeff Lewis, and Professor of Public Policy and Economics at the Graduate School of Public Policy at Pepperdine, Dr. Charles Van Eaton.

Israeli Consul General on Peace in the Middle East
Deputy Consul General Zvi Vapni talks to Kitty about his month-long lecture series titled ˛Israel: A Nation ChallengedÓ held at the University of Judaism. The series addresses a Saudi peace plan for the Middle East that is increasingly gaining momentum - even as Israeli and Palestinian security chiefs emerged from a tense meeting overnight with no agreement on how to end the fighting there is a mood of increased hope.

Insurance Commissioner Race
In the wake of the scandal that drove former Insurance Commissioner Chuck Quakenbush from office, Kitty speaks with the author of Proposition 103 and President of the Foundation for Taxpayer and Conusmer Rights, Harvey Rosenfield, and LA Times reporter Ken Reich about the possibility of electing an independent insurance commissioner we can trust. A total of eleven candidates will face off in the March 05 primary election.

New way to forecast Quakes?
Ken Reich, whose other specialty is earthquake issues, is joined by USGS's Lucy Jones to comment on his report in today's LA Times that a team of University of Colorado scientists may have found a way to forecast Southern California earthquakes using past patterns and mapping.

Flamenco at the Arroyo Heritage Theater
Kitty talks with guitarist Adam del Monte and his wife, Flamenco dancer Laila del Monte, about the art and history of Flamenco. Doomsday Nears?
Growing concern about the security of nuclear weapons materials stockpiled around the world and a lack of US support for several global disarmament pacts prompted the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientist to move the minute hand of the "Doomsday Clock" forward two minutes to seven minutes to midnight-the same position as when the clock was developed in 1947. Publisher Stephen Schwartz explains the move in detail while Richard Anderson, Assistant Professor of Political Science at UCLA, outlines what he sees as the even greater dangers of non-proliferation.
