Can older women have lasting relationships with younger men?
A plethora of recent films including Tadpole, Unfaithful, Y Tu Maman Tambien, American Pie, and Attack of the Clones are featuring the relationships of older women and younger men. Jokes about Mrs. Robinson aside, are such pairings realistic in the long haul? Kitty Felde, herself married to a younger man, asks the question and takes a look at the unique issues facing these couples on the issues of having children, social censure and gender roles with guest Susan Winter, author of Older Women, Younger Men and spokesperson for the Miramax film Tadpole.

The House Of Bernarda Alba
Kitty talks with actors Camille Saviola and Sandra Oh, currently starring in the play The House of Bernarda Alba, on stage at the Mark Taper Forum through September 1. For tickets and more information, call 213-628-2772.

Attack Iraq?
Guest Anthony Cordesman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in D.C. will be testifying on the hill Wednesday advocating military action against Iraq. Kitty gets a preview of his testimony and hears his rationale for supporting the action.

Michael Payne on Redesigning KPCC
Michael Payne to the rescue! As KPCC gears up to reallocate the office space around here, designing expert Michael Payne will assist us in making decisions on the best use of the space while trying to accommodate everyone’s particular needs - as he does every week as host of HGTV’s Designing for the Sexes. Michael Payne can be seen on HGTV’s Designing for the Sexes every Thursday night at 6pm and 9pm and Saturday nights at 10:30pm.

Wither the OC Register?
Early next month the board of the Orange County Register will debate the possible sale of the famously conservative paper along with 27 smaller daily papers, 37 weeklies and 8 television stations owned by Freedom Communications. Will a chain be stepping in as it did two years ago with the LA Times? Kitty looks at the history and possible scenarios for the future with Tony Fellow, professor of communications at Cal State Fullerton where he is director of the Journalism program and adjunct professor of media history at USC’s Annenburg School.

Business History
The market shakedown, the corporate scandals, and the massive stock market correction seem unprecedented. Are they? Kitty Felde explores the past with Harvard Business School professor and business historian, Nancy Koehn. They’ll talk about “business past” in order to place our present business climate in better historical perspective. What can we learn from the past to make better-informed decisions for our financial future? Nancy Koehn will also give us an update on how the scandals have affected the current crop of MBAs.

Tippi Hedron
Movie star turned animal activist Tippi Hedren says private funding for her Shambala animal preserve has all but dried up since September 11, with federal, private and corporate funding redirected. Kitty talks to her as she heads to Congress to introduce a bill that will amend the Animal Welfare Act to regulate the personal possession of certain wild animals.

Pride and Genetic Engineering
Kitty tackles PRIDE - the first sin in our seven deadly sins series, and the one originally considered the worst sin compared to the others. Kitty speaks with Glen Stassen, a Professor in the School of Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary, about the original definition of pride and how it became one of the infamous seven. Then we take an example of pride in action today, with the science of genetic engineering and the making of the perfect human. Kitty looks back at the eugenics movement and forward to decades of genetic engineering to help us better understand an example of pride as it could be defined in today’s world. Her guest is John Beckwith, the author of "Making Genes, Making Waves: A Social Activist in Science" and Professor of Microbiology and Molecular genetics at Harvard Medical School.

Africa Peace Movements
A movement of peace is spreading across Africa - on Tuesday the Presidents of Congo and Rwanda signed an accord to essentially end the war that has ravaged Congo. Meanwhile, continued progress on a cease-fire in Angola also looks promising. Kitty talks with William ("Bill") Minter, Senior Research Fellow for Africa Action, on the hopeful news.

Happy Birthday, Julia Child!
This August Julia Child turns ninety. Kitty Felde takes a moment to hear how a Pasadena-born girl went on to thoroughly influence cooking as we know it. She speaks with the host of Splendid Table Lynne Rosetta Kasper. Lynne Rosetta Kasper has appeared on Julia Child’s Master Chefs (1995) and won the Julia Child Best Cookbook of the Year (1993).

The Art of Multitasking
How do they do it? Kitty convenes the ultimate panel of over achievers to glean some of their tips for accomplishing more in a day than most of us do in a week. LA Times columnist, author, and KCET host Patt Morrison, USC law professor, Charter Commission member and LA Times editorial writer Erwin Chemerinsky, and president of the National Alliance for Positive Action, author, and host of Tuesday Live! on KPFK, Earl Ofari Hutchinson pencil us in.

Book Club: Where the Broken Heart Still Beats
This month, students from the Pegasus School in Huntington Beach join Kitty for a discussion of Carloyn Meyer’s Where the Broken Heart Still Beats. The author also joins the show and actress Tippi Hedron reads a passage from the book.
