HOUR ONE: LIFESTYLE CHANGES
Well start off with the stereotypes of seniors as evidenced by medias characterization of seniors as
forgetful, sickly and prone to danger. Well look at housing and transportation issues that arise when one
loses their independence and home life. Guests include: Dr. Susan Turk Charles, social ecologist
studying social lives of seniors and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and
Social Behavior at University of California, Irvine; Lynn Rodriguez, gerontology specialist with the

Many seniors return to the dating scene after years, if not decades away from it.

of dating and romance? Is love different after sixty? And what do seniors look for in a companion
when children no longer factor into the equation? Kitty Felde asks these questions and more. Guests include:

Bell Gardens from the ground up. Persistent themes in Los Angeles life today, from racial discord to homeowner rights can trace
their roots to these migrants and their pursuit of the LA version of the American dream. Kitty talks to Becky Nicolaides,
Associate Professor of History and Urban Studies and Planning at UC San Diego, about her book on the topic,
My Blue Heaven: Life and Politics in the Working Class Suburbs of Los Angeles 1920-1965 (University of Chicago Press).
