A California State of Mind (Listen)
On the eve of the Nov 5th election, Mark Baldassare from the Institute for Public Policy joins Kitty to discuss election-related issues like the wary voter, the rising Latino vote, and how the state of the economy can affect the outcome of an election. His new book is A California State of Mind (University of California Press).

Kitty talks with Gary Copeland, candidate for Governor of California about the Libertarian party.

Maxine Hong Kingston (Listen)
At the age of sixty, writer Maxine Hong Kingston has decided what she wants to do with her life, she wants to be a poet. And her latest book, To Be the Poet (Harvard University Press), is her declaration of this goal as well as an exploration of what it takes to write poetry and what it means to be a poet, all interspersed with some of her own works of poetry.


Tuesday, Nov. 5

A Judge Looks at the Rise of State Power (Listen)
Ninth District U.S. Court of Appeals Judge John T. Noonan takes a critical look at the Supreme Court and its rulings in the last six years. Judge Noonan argues that the Supreme Court has dangerously weakened the nation’s power by enhancing autonomy of the states. He joins Kitty in studio to speak about his book Narrowing the Nation’s Power (University of California Press).

Crime Scene Tour (Listen)
This weekend, AP Special Correspondent Linda Deutsch will narrate a bus tour of some of the city's more notorious crimes, crime scenes and celebrity scandals. John Raitt (Listen)
Actor, singer and father of Bonnie Raitt joins Kitty in studio where she hopes to get him to sing to her a cappella. Raitt is promoting a concert called Something Wonderful to benefit the Actors’ Fund of America.

Something Wonderful, a concert benefiting the Actors' Fund of America and a tribute to the centennial of composer Richard Rodgers' and honoring Gordon Davidson, will be at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State LA, 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles 90032. Showings are at 8:00PM on Saturday, November 9th and 3:00PM matinee on Sunday, Nov. 10th.

Cultivating the Next Generation of American Playwrights (Listen)
What does it take to find and nurture the next generation of American playwrights? South Coast Repertory co-founders David Eames and Martin Benson, Theater Communications Group executive director Ben Cameron, and playwright Richard Greenberg speak with Kitty from the South Coast Repertory Theater.
