The California Spineflower

The flower, once thought extinct until it was discovered on the site of a proposed Newhall Land and Farming Co. development, spawned an investigation by the D.A.Õs office into alleged environmental crimes by Newhall against the endangered flower. Some prosecutors in the D.A.Õs office say D.A. Steve Cooley limited the investigation. LA Times writer Nicholas Riccardi speaks with Kitty Felde.
Designing the CA State Quarter

Remembering Nell Carter

A public funeral service is scheduled in Culver City today for entertainer Nell Carter, who died last week at her Beverly Hills home at the age of 54. At the time of her death on Thursday, Carter was in rehearsal for the Long Beach International City Theatre's upcoming production of "Raisin," a musical based on the Lorraine Hansberry play "A Raisin in the Sun." Friend and artistic director of ICT, Shashin Desai speaks with Kitty Felde.

LA River Plan

Video Artist Bill Viola

Bill Viola, widely recognized internationally as one of the leading video artists, joins Kitty to discuss his current exhibition at the Getty, Bill Viola: The Passions. The exhibit features 13 recent works by the artist, none of which have been seen on the West Coast, and features the debut of 2 new pieces. Also joining the discussion is John Walsh, curator of the exhibit and director emeritus of the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Mayor Hahn on Gun Trafficking

Treating the Mentally Ill in Jails

The National Association of Counties is in LA this week to learn from model programs they hope to incorporate into a national model for addressing the needs of the increasing number of mentally ill being jailed and efforts to get more funds for treatment, housing and diversion programs.

Audio Tour of the John Singer Sargent Exhibit

The West CoastÕs first comprehensive exhibition of works by John Singer Sargent opens at the LA Co. Museum of Art this Sunday. The chief curator, Bruce Robertson, and SargentÕs grandnephew, Richard Ormond, give Kitty a sneak preview.
