Nancy Reagan (Listen)
Michael Deaver spent more than 20 years as one of Ronald Reagan's closest advisors in both Sacramento and Washington. He has decided to--in his words--set the record straight regarding a woman who has come to symbolize loyalty and fidelity--the ultimate political wife. As a spouse's role in politics inevitably comes into scrutiny during this election year, Kitty speaks with Michael about his latest book, Nancy: An Intimate Portrait of my Years with Nancy Reagan (William Morrow).

Joe Eszterhas (Listen)
Screenwriter and enfant terrible of Hollywood Joe Eszterhas joins Kitty to talk about his rise from Hungarian refugee camps to become one of the only screenwriters in the history of Hollywood with name recognition and a total of over $1 billion in grosses from his films. His memoir is Hollywood Animal (Knopf).

Proposition 55 (Listen)
Proponents of Prop 55 and Measure R say these bonds are vital to solving problems of rundown classrooms and overcrowding in our schools. But can California afford more debt in this time of huge deficits? Both sides of these two March primary issues make their cases on today's program.

Stage Directions (Listen)
Homophobia in the African-American community is the subject of a provocative new play called "Stage Directions". Playwright L. Trey Wilson, known for incorporating divisive racial issues into his plays joins Kitty to discuss his latest production.

Congressman Barney Frank (Listen)
Gay politics are in the limelight yet again--weddings in San Francisco, the argument for and against civil unions. Congressman Barney Frank shares his story as an openly gay member of Congress.

Tonight he is the keynote speaker at USC's "The State of Gay Politics in America". The event is from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Bovard Auditorium. The event is one in a series sponsored by USC's Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Transgender Assembly (GLBTA).


Wednesday, Feb. 18

Candidate Toni Casey (Listen)
Toni Casey, one of four main Republican challengers to US Senator Barbara Boxer's seat, joins Kitty to talk about her campaign. The former Los Altos Hills mayor faces an uphill battle against Republican frontrunner Bill Jones.

Proposition 56 (Listen)
Will Prop 56 work by withholding legislators' pay when the budget is late, or will it really make it easier for the legislature to raise our taxes? Find out today when Kitty quizzes representatives from both sides of the issue. Roy Ulrich, member of the Board of Directors for California Common Cause, supports Prop 56; Carol Evans, Vice President of California Taxpayers' Association opposes it.

TV Viewers, Where are They? (Listen)
As networks are watching successful shows leave the airwaves, and cable marks the end of the successful Sex and the City, what will fill the void? Also, rumors abound about shortening the season; the Neilson's are having trouble finding viewers, and what about the impact of view on demand? Kitty Felde speaks with Alex Ben Block, editor of Television Week and KPCC Call Sheet commentator, and Cynthia Littleton, Deputy Editor of The Hollywood Reporter.

Sex & the City Ends (Listen)
Producers Aimee Machado and Julia Posey snuck in on the Museum of Television and Radio's Sex and the City Marathon and spoke with viewers about the allure of the HBO hit.

This weekend the Museum of Television and radio completes its marathon screenings of Sex & the City. The museum will show the last season (season 6) from 12-5 pm on Saturday and 12-1 pm on Sunday. This weekend is also the last chance to enter to win the special Sex & the City-themed prize package (it includes items like a $200 gift certificate from Jimmy Choo Shoes).

DA's Office and the Cardinal (Listen)
Earlier this week, Kitty Felde spoke with Cardinal Roger Mahoney about his "Report to the People of God" naming some of the priests accused of molestation since 1931. Today, Kitty checks in with the District Attorney's office and speaks with Head Deputy Bill Hodgman about the ongoing investigation and the battle for access to personnel records the Archbishop has declared privileged.

Foster Care Overhaul (Listen)
Tuesday the LA Board of Supervisors approved an ambitious plan designed to reform the county foster care system. As he outlined first on "Talk of the City", director David Sanders hopes to both reduce the number of children in the system and the length of time they stay there by loosening restrictions on some $380 million in federal funds. Riverside, Sacramento and Fresno counties are considering following suit. With implementation scheduled for October, what are the next obstacles to implementation?

Movie Costumes are Ready for Their Close-Up! (Listen)
A local favorite now in it's 12th year, the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandizing presents the Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibition showcases the work of designers including examples from "The Last Samurai", "Cold Mountain", and, "Pirates of the Caribbean". The exhibition is free and open to the public. Kevin Jones, FIDM's Curator of the Costume Collection, will take Kitty on a tour to savor the hard work of one of the most indispensable fields in film.

Dave Hickey (Listen)
