How much do you make?

It's a rude question — maybe one of the rudest. Probably because people jump to conclusions about you based on your annual income.

Marketplace's Wealth and Poverty Desk and want to place that information in some kind of context. So they came up with Income Upshot, a data visualization tool that tracks the relationship between what you earn and how you live, work and play.

Using data from  the U.S. Census Bureau, marketing firms, academic researchers and other sources, the tool explores what someone's income can tell us about their lifestyle and consumer behavior.

Give Income Upshot a whirl and see how you stack up. Then tell us in the comments if the findings surprise you, make sense or tell you something you didn't know.

And share this tool with your friends through KPCC's Facebook page or Twitter feed.
