The Crawford Family Forum launched in March 2010 with the opening of KPCC’s brand-new Mohn Broadcast Center in Pasadena. This shiny new town hall for the 21st century quickly became, as our Southern California Public Radio President Bill Davis is fond of saying, "the physical manifestation of our public service mission."
Now, almost six years, hundreds of events and thousands of audience members later, we are producing in-person content in support of that mission on a more regular basis and doing so in collaboration with our newsroom, shows, colleagues and the community.
Last year alone, we celebrated AirTalk’s 30th anniversary with a regional tour and produced the first-ever live broadcast of Take Two (which garnered a Golden Mike Award for the Watts special/event), the first-ever KPCC event for The Frame, an affordability series as part of our regional desk and an assortment of other events. We continue to grow an active and effective engagement effort to diversify our newsroom, sources and audience through a variety of events, activities and initiatives.
Up until now, we have been identified on-air and online as the Crawford Family Forum. However, with the majority of our events now happening in the community in a range of creative formats and venues, it has become clear that we need an identity that more accurately conveys who we are and whom we intend to be.
So, during the week of February 15, our events and engagement platform will officially become KPCC In Person.
This new brand reflects the focus we put on our relationship with the community as well as the dynamic approach we have to programming when it comes to the who, what, where and why. The Crawford Family Forum will continue to be the name of our flagship town hall venue at our main studios in Pasadena, as well as an integral part of our multiplatform service.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our future events soon.
