L. A. City Council Holds Off on Pot Ordinance

Our segment this morning on L. A.'s proposed medical marijuana dispensary ordinance made clear that the most controversial part of the plan was banning dispensaries from within 1,000 feet of residences. This afternoon, that part of the proposal proved so divisive that the Council decided to push off a vote until next week. It seems other cities have figured this out without nearly as much drama as Los Angeles. Is it really that hard to balance patient access with neighborhood concerns about the proliferation of dispensaries?

Tomorrow, we'll talk about the proposed major cuts in staffing at the LAUSD, and what the effects will be on students. Bigger classes, fewer arts and music programs, and cuts in gifted education are just a few the District is detailing.
