This week, say goodbye to July and hello to a new crop of concerts around LA....

Tuesday night is all about the synths and pianos, starting with the gorgeous, swirling electronic-pop stylings of  St. Lucia, plus Beat Club and Mr. Little Jeans at the Echo.  The Dim Mak Studios will also heat up with the likes of Mumbai Science and Matzerath.

If Wednesday's got you yearning for something decidedly different, then Ava Luna is your ticket. Leftfield, funky, punkish and brainy, this Brooklyn-based band is like nothing like we’ve heard around here recently. This eclectic eve at the Echo is rounded out by Bobby Birdman and Moon Pearl. If more traditional indie rock is your thing, Voxhaul Broadcast plays the Troubadour with Mini Mansions and LA Font.

It’s true, the best things life are free- or at least the best Thursday night concerts in LA.  That’s when electronic mastermind Nosaj Thing gives it to us gratis at the MacArthur Park Levitt Pavilion.  Kind Hearts and Coronets also plays for free tonight at Pershing Square, a band that LA Weekly describes as “a modern-day psychedelic cabaret show — pretty melodies, enthusiastic harmonic choruses and a fantastic horn, blended to orchestral pop perfection.”

Friday, we’re in love- with more free shows, that is. The nine-piece ruckus-inducing soul/funk/rock group Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds play the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena, and Salem, IO Echo, and Health (spinning a DJ set) will all be performing at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. Swoon!

Saturday is chock full of options for concert goers, starting with the hipster darlings Dirty Projectors at the Wiltern, having just released their sixth studio album, “Swing Low Magellan.” Arabian Prince, Egyptian Lover and Javelin take the MacArthur Levitt Pavilion stage (another free show!), and Sun Araw, Computer Jay, Farmer Dave, Crimekillz, and ESMK pack the Echo.

Sunday brings the 90’s songwriting waif Fiona Apple to the Hollywood Palladium, now grown up and out with a fourth studio album (get ready), “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.”
