An Altadena resident made a grisly discovery Sunday morning when he came upon a burning human body lying on the sidewalk, and authorities say an autopsy is pending as they search for answers.

The victim, determined to be an adult black male, was found at around 6 a.m. on the 2600 block of Windsor Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the case. His body was in a fetal position and still aflame, according to reports. Authorities have not yet been able to determine his identity due to the extent of the burning.

The Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy to determine, among other things, whether he was dead before being set on fire.

According to one local report, following the discovery a few neighbors in this normally quiet area were seen assembling on a nearby street corner to pray for the victim.

Currently investigators have few leads to go on, although a red Mazda four-door was reportedly towed from the scene and may provide clues.
