Pedestrian gets lodged in vehicle’s windshield after being struck on Anaheim street

A driver in Anaheim hit a pedestrian so hard with her car on Saturday that the poor man got stuck in her windshield, police said.

Although the man’s full condition was not immediately known, he was expected to survive, CBS reports.

Sgt. Bob Dunn of the Anaheim Police Department told reporters that the crash occurred a little after 9 p.m. near Perdido Street and Ball Road when the unidentified man was struck by a blue Kia.

Paramedics were able to dislodge him and transport him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

This type of accident -- where a pedestrian gets lodged in a windshield -- gets a surprising amount of attention ever since an infamous case in 2001, when Chante Jawan Mallard struck a man in Texas, lodging him in her windshield, then let him die without getting help or attention of any kind. The incident and subsequent trial -- Mallard was sentenced to 50 years for murder, plus 10 more for trying to hide the body -- inspired several movies and more than one TV episode.

As for Saturday’s crash in Anaheim, police gave no indication of any wrongdoing by the driver, and help came immediately for the unlucky pedestrian.
