The function of Sunset Junction's peculiar sidewalk curtain

Pay no attention to the El Pollo Loco behind the curtain.

The Eastsider LA reports that Silver Lake restaurant/bar owner Gareth Kantner has hoisted a black curtain over the sidewalk and secured it to a pair utility poles near Sunset Boulevard and Sanborn Avenue.

You may remember Kantner as the Cafe/Bar Stella operator who built a six-foot wall around his Sunset Junction establishment earlier this year (and then painted it orange). Erected to give his patio patrons a barrier from street life, the controversial wall still wasn't tall enough to block out the night lights and the view of a neighboring chicken chain.

It's unclear how long the curtain will be hanging around as a solution. Eastsider reports that Kantner contacted the city about installing shields.
