Fandango records 57 percent increase in ticket sales last year

Deadline reports that movie website Fandango had a record-setting 2012. The NBCUniversal-owned company annouced Wednesday that noteworthy increases were seen in ticket sales and traffic in 2012.

  • Ticket sales grew 57 percent compared with 2011
  • Monthly visitors up 34 percent year-over-year
  • Mobile ticket sales increased 171 percent year-over-year  (30 percent of the overall sales total)
  • The service recorded 31 million downloads of its mobile app in 2012

New theater deals helped expand Fandango's network, says Deadline, as well as portal partnerships with Yahoo, Moviefone and MSN.

The company also made overtures toward original programming with the launch of an "awards watch" interview show called The Frontrunners.
