Grammy Award-winner and Kennedy Center Honoree Mavis Staples is living, breathing history. A master at weaving the genres of rhythm and blues, gospel, and soul, her voice became an anthem of the Civil Rights movement. Now in her seventh decade, Staples’ legendary raw and rasping voice is more powerful than ever as she shouts, croons, scats, and testifies like no one else can.
