What is the California accent?

Few accents are more identifiable than those of New Yorkers, Bostonians, and Southerners. But what about Californians? For many years, people have pointed to the non-accent accent or, less often, to the stereotypical San Fernando Valley girls. Now Stanford researchers are working to define the California accent, and we are partnering with KQED and The California Report to help gather Californians' insights.
