Long Beach is known for its Blues Festival, Jazz Festival, and Reggae Fest. Now the city’s hosting what it hopes will become an annual gospel music event.

The Long Beach Gospel Fest and Downtown Worship Experience on Sunday features more than 15 performers, including headliner Kim Burrel. Organizer Wayne Chaney, pastor of the Antioch Church, says times are tough and he wanted to boost people’s spirits.

Wayne Chaney: "Financial challenges bring undue stress. People are just looking for hope. They’re looking for a good report. They’re looking for community in spite of everything that we’re facing. And we’re going to try to bring all those things together with this worship experience and this gospel fest."

The performances will be outdoors on Pine Avenue in downtown Long Beach. The day-long event begins at 11 o’clock and it’s free. For more information, go online to
